VENICE, FL – According to WTSP, a man drowned at Venice Beach near 101 The Esplanade South on Saturday morning.

Wesley Wilcox, 47, was seen by witnesses placing a bag down on the sand before walking into the water around 11 a.m. He was next seen face down near the shoreline.

First responders performed lifesaving measures on Wilcos before pronouncing him dead at the scene.

SARASOTA, FL – According to FOX 13 News, a driver struck and killed a pedestrian on US 41 near Gary Street on Tuesday.

The driver hit the victim sometime early Tuesday morning.

Following the collision, crews shut down all northbound and southbound lanes of US 41 to process the scene.

SARASOTA, FL – According to FOX 13, a hit-and-run driver collided with a pedestrian on North Lockwood Ridge near 44th Street on Monday morning.

The driver struck the victim around 2:40 a.m.

First responders transported the victim to an area hospital.

Sarasota County fire crews arrived at the scene at 2 p.m. While no lane closures were announced, they do advise commuters to seek alternative routes or avoid the area until transportation crews can restore safe road conditions.

VENICE, FL – A 19-year-old man died crashing his Ford Ranger pickup truck into a canal off Ranch Road and Rustic Road Sunday. 

Venice police told WFLA that they suspect the 19-year-old male driver was speeding when he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a utility pole. The force of the collision caused his red pickup truck to overturn. 

Venice fire crews and the dive team discovered the male driver inside his truck. First responders waited to rescue the man due to two large alligators in the water, which were later removed by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

NORTH PORT, FL – One person was injured in a vehicle accident that happened in the North Port neighborhood Monday afternoon. 

Sarasota County deputies were dispatched to the 17179th block of Tamiami Trail and arrived at the scene before 1 p.m. Officials have not announced any lane closures but do advise commuters to use caution as crews work to clear the scene.

ENGELWOOD, FL – The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the details behind a fatal two-vehicle collision near Englewood Elementary School last Thursday, May 8. 

My Sun Coast said the two-vehicle collision happened on Indiana Avenue, between Dearborn Street and Perry Street. Upon arrival, Florida Highway Patrol closed the area for the scene for the clean-up process and investigation. 

FHP has not disclosed the exact cause of the crash or the victim’s age, gender, and place of residence.

NORTH VENICE, FL – A 36-year-old man from Hollywood lost his life after a box truck rollover collision on the I-75 North off-ramp connecting to Laurel Road Monday. 

Florida Highway Patrol told Fox 13 News that the box truck rollover collision happened after the truck driver had lost control of the vehicle, veered off the road, and slammed into the traffic sign. The force of the collision caused the truck to flip over. 

FHP said the Hollywood man, the box truck passenger, succumbed to his injuries at the scene, while the driver sustained minor injuries. The driver was identified as a 26-year-old Opa Locka man. Troopers did not say if they cited the motorist or confirm why he lost control of the truck.
