PALMETTO, FL – A 70-year-old male pilot and his passenger, an 86-year-old man, were left with non-life-threatening injuries after their plane crashed into an unoccupied truck Tuesday. 

My Sun Coast said the men were in the process of departing Airport Manatee when heavy winds caused their Aeronca Champion plane to descend from the sky and strike a powerline prior to making contact with the other vehicle. 

The passenger, Allen Maxwell, was sitting behind the pilot and was able to get out of the plane on his own.

TAMPA, FL – Two men lost their lives, and four people were sent to the hospital after a multi-vehicle wreck caused by a trash truck driver Monday. 

The events started around 1 p.m., when the truck operator had rear-ended a minivan on North 50th Street, according to ABC Action News

After the initial rear-end collision, the truck driver then struck a man in his 20s and then hit three more vehicles.

TAMPA, FL – A 48-year-old Ruskin man lost his life, and three passengers with him were hospitalized after an I-4 crash reported before 7:30 a.m. Saturday.

Florida Highway Patrol told ABC Action News that the collision happened after the Ruskin man, driving a Kia Sedona, struck an attenuator on the westbound lanes and then hit a Nissan Pathfinder. Once the vehicles collided, one Kia passenger, a 46-year-old woman, was ejected.

Upon arrival, troopers confirmed the Ruskin man’s death, and EMS crews rushed the three Kia passengers to a hospital. They are recovering from non-life-threatening injuries.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL – A two-vehicle collision claimed the life of a 28-year-old woman and ended in a DUI manslaughter charge Sunday.

WTSP said the crash happened around 8 p.m. on 34th Street North. Preliminary details showed that a 33-year-old Pinellas Park man had drifted off the road when he crashed his black Nissan Armada into a burgundy Honda Accord.

The impact of the wreck caused the Honda driver to drift off the road further and hit a concrete pole, which fell on the car. The Nissan also left the road and crashed into a tree.

TAMPA, FL – Two vehicles crashed into a barrier on the Sunshine Skyway Bridge, resulting in some temporary lane closures Wednesday.

According to My SunCoast, the collision happened on the northbound lanes, and delays lasted for 25 minutes in the southbound directions and 30 minutes on the north side.

Officials have not disclosed the events leading to the wreck or said if anyone was injured. Our team of news writers will add updates once the latest developments come to light.

LAKELAND, FL – A 28-year-old male motorcyclist lost his life after colliding with a left-turning FedEx truck Monday, Fox 13 News said. 

The collision happened around 4:30 p.m. on Tom Costine Road. Polk County deputies said the motorcyclist was traveling behind the truck. The biker, Brandon Bailey, tried to pass the truck by crossing double yellow lines in a no-pass zone. Bailey’s attempt was unsuccessful, and he ended up striking the truck, turning into a private driveway. 

EMS crews rushed Bailey to a local hospital, where he suffered fatal injuries.

TAMPA, FL – A male pedestrian was left with critical, life-threatening injuries after getting hit by a vehicle in the Sulphur Springs district Tuesday, FOX 13 News said. 

The crash occurred before 6:30 a.m. in the area of East Busch Boulevard and North Brooks Street, west of Rowlett Park. EMS crews rushed the man to a hospital, where he is recovering. 

Tampa police are working to pinpoint the events that led to the crash. No citations or criminal charges were announced.

TAMPA, FL – A cyclist lost his life after he collided with a scooter rider on Dale Mabry Highway South, north of Hudson Lane Saturday, WTSP said.

Florida Highway Patrol were dispatched to the scene before 7:45 p.m. According to their preliminary investigation, the cyclist tried to merge into an outside lane from the right lane and struck the scooter operator.

Troopers declared the bicyclist dead at the scene. They later identified him as a 72-year-old man. FHP confirmed the scooter rider, a 41-year-old man, was unharmed.

PALM HARBOR, FL – A wrong-way collision near Sutherland Elementary School last Saturday claimed the life of one man and injured two other people, WTSP reports. 

Florida Highway Patrol said the crash took place before 8:45 p.m. while, for reasons not immediately clear, a 68-year-old Tarpon Springs man was driving a Toyota Tacoma south on northbound Belcher Road. At one point, the wrong-way Tacoma collided with a Cadillac DTS and then a Mazda Protege 5. 

EMS crews took all drivers to a hospital, where the 68-year-old man died.

NORTH PORT, FL – A driver operating a crane truck failed to reduce their speed just prior to striking another big rig Wednesday, leaving at least one person injured. 

The collision happened before 11 a.m. on I-75 South and caused hydraulic oil to spill from one of the trucks, according to WINK News

Florida Highway Patrol said the crane driver was going up a hill and had a clear view of the 18-wheeler with hazard lights on just before the incident. Upon impact, the crane truck overturned.
