ST. PETERSBURG, FL – A 25-year-old woman riding a bicycle lost her life after she was struck by a Jeep driver who was intoxicated Tuesday.
This collision happened after 9 p.m. at the 54th Avenue South and 31st Street South intersection, according to WFLA. St. Petersburg Police revealed the collision occurred as the Jeep driver was turning left (legally) at the interchange.
Upon arrival, first responders took the cyclist — Haylee Concepcion, from St. Petersburg — to Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital, where she died.
First responders arrested the driver, 66-year-old Richard Wilson, for DUI after he showed signs of impairment. Wilson did remain at the scene. At this time, police did not specify other pending charges or where Wilson was booked into jail.
The police department started an investigation and has not shared additional details at this time.
