MYAKKA CITY, FL – A passenger was killed Friday when a driver swerved onto SR-70 West and then off the roadway, striking multiple stationary objects and causing their car to overturn.

This collision occurred before 1:30 p.m. near Robinson Road, according to WFLA. Florida Highway Patrol said that after the driver collided with three mailboxes and a tree, the car overturned overturned and came to rest on a grassy shoulder. The impact of the wreck fatally injured a male passenger — a Sarasota resident — who was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Paramedics took the driver and a female passenger to Sarasota Memorial Hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

While the FHP has launched an investigation, officials have not provided additional commentary about the events of the crash.
