ST. PETERSBURG, FL – An 11-year-old girl and another passenger from a minivan were sent to the hospital after they were struck by a speeding driver who ran a red light while fleeing from police.
WTSP said the events leading up to this crash started at 9 a.m. on Monday when a St. Petersburg officer tried to pull over the speeding driver on 1st Avenue South, who was operating a Mercedes SUV without a valid tag that was said to have been temporary and fake. The Mercedes driver — 19-year-old Ajaye Morrer — ignored the offer’s order and drove away, thus initiating the pursuit.
A short time after driving away, Morrer then struck the minivan on 31st Street South. The chase was terminated, and Morrer was apprehended by police.
