TAMPA, FL – A 23-year-old man died early Wednesday, May 21, following a northeast Tampa collision involving a parked semi-truck, according to WFLA.

The fatal collision occurred on a stretch of U.S. Highway 301 at Valletta Drive, prompting an emergency response from the Florida Highway Patrol at about 1:12 a.m.

Officials say the 23-year-old man, a local resident, was driving a BMW 328i southbound on the highway. At one point, the car collided with a semi that was parked in a private driveway near Gulf Coast Thermo King.

A preliminary investigation indicates that a semi-trailer, driven by a 26-year-old man from San Jose, California, was sticking out from the southbound lane at the time of impact.

The Tampa man, who did not observe the trailer prior to the crash, was later pronounced deceased.
