by

LITHIA, FL – A Florida Highway Patrol sustained injuries after he crashed his car into a ditch and tree while pursuing a speeding driver Friday.

The events of the collision first unfolded before 5:30 p.m. near Balm Boyette Road and Boyette Road, WTSP revealed. The speeding driver, operating a Volkswagen Jetta, ignored the trooper’s signal to pull over and kept driving.

When the trooper and motorist reached Hobson Simmons Road, that’s when the trooper crashed into the ditch and tree and then lost track of the Volkswagen driver.

The motorist was nowhere to be found when other troopers eventually caught up with the Volkswagen, located a mile away from the collision site.

The trooper was hospitalized for minor wounds and has resumed work service on Sunday.
