News: Merge collision in Tampa claims life of motorcyclist

by

TAMPA, FL – A 65-year-old man riding a Harley Davidson tried to merge into a northbound Veterans Expressway lane and hit a pickup truck with a trailer, leading to his death Tuesday.

This collision happened after 4 p.m. near milepost 8, according to WTSP. The impact led the motorcycle to overturn and the Ford F-150 pickup truck to eventually come to rest in other northbound lanes.

Florida Highway Patrol said an ambulance took the motorcyclist (and issued him a trauma alert) to a local hospital, where he later passed away, while the truck driver, a 26-year-old man, was unharmed.

FHP and crews closed a majority of the northbound lanes for several hours before reopening all. Before the reopening, traffic delays could be seen towards Exit 4 before Hillsborough Avenue.

No other details are available.
