News: Man, 19, dies after truck crashes into canal in Venice

by

VENICE, FL – A 19-year-old man died crashing his Ford Ranger pickup truck into a canal off Ranch Road and Rustic Road Sunday.

Venice police told WFLA that they suspect the 19-year-old male driver was speeding when he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a utility pole. The force of the collision caused his red pickup truck to overturn.

Venice fire crews and the dive team discovered the male driver inside his truck. First responders waited to rescue the man due to two large alligators in the water, which were later removed by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

Once the alligators were removed, emergency responders were able to dive in and pronounced the man dead at the scene. He was later identified as Fredy Chavez Sanchez.

Officials were eventually able to remove the vehicle from the water.
