LAKELAND, FL -A 36-year-old Tampa man was killed in a head-on collision with a semi-truck early Saturday morning in Polk County, AOL reported.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) said the crash occurred around 3:16 a.m. on US 98 North at Earnest Road.

According to PCSO Traffic Homicide detectives, the Tampa man, driving a 2020 Chevy Silverado southbound, attempted to pass another vehicle. He entered the northbound lane, directly into the path of an oncoming semi-truck.

The semi-truck driver and his passenger, both from Orlando, escaped injury. The Tampa man was pronounced dead at the scene.

All individuals involved were wearing seatbelts at the time of the collision, investigators noted.

Authorities have not released the identity of the deceased, pending notification of next of kin. The crash forced the closure of US 98 North for approximately five hours as investigators worked the scene.
