News: 6 killed, 1 critically hurt in SUV-train crash in Plant City

PLANT CITY, FL – Three adults and three children suffered fatal injuries, and a 23-year-old man is in critical condition after a crash between an SUV and a train before 7 p.m. Saturday. 

CBS News said the driver of the Cadillac Escalade did not yield to a posted train sign near Highway 92 and Jim Lefler Circle. A conductor signaled he was approaching with loud horns and flashing lights. However, despite best efforts, his train collided with the Cadillac. The force of the collision caused the vehicle to be thrown and overturned and also ejected five people. 

The impact of the crash left the driver and front passenger trapped. The motorist was identified as 52-year-old Jose G. Hernandez. 

The other victims were identified as a 9-year-old boy, a 17-year-old boy, a 17-year-old girl, 22-year-old Anaelia Hernandez, and 50-year-old Enedelia Hernandez. 

Officials identified the 23-year-old man as Guillermo Gama.
